There are many ways in which you can be connected to the Tibetan issue and each is of vital importance. Tibetan religion, culture, environment and basic human rights are under threat and there is an important way you can help - become a Voice for Tibet monthly donor.

Tibetan Buddhism - A large proportion of Tibetan refugees are monks and nuns who found it impossible to pursue a religious vocation in Tibet. Monks and nuns continue to be targeted by political campaigns aimed at devaluing religious education. The Chinese government maintains tight controls on religious practices in places of worship in Tibetan areas.

Human Rights - The latest US State Department Country Report said that China's human rights record in Tibet “remained poor”. The Chinese government continues to commit “serious human rights abuses, including torture, arbitrary arrest and detention, house arrest and surveillance of dissidents, and arbitrary restrictions on free movement.”

Tibetan Environment - China’s insatiable need for resources may be making the rest of the world rich, but it will devastate the Tibetan environment. Mining is a growing threat and more than half of Tibet’s natural forest has been destroyed since Chinese occupation. Lakes sacred to Tibetan Buddhism are being drained as the result of massive hydro-electricity projects.

Tibetan Culture - Tibetans are suffering from increasing poverty, rural-urban inequality and poor levels of education. Chinese policies, particularly the railway link to Lhasa, mean Tibetans are facing increasing competition for employment and marginalisation within their own communities due to the numbers of Chinese migrants entering Tibet - leading to concerns for the very survival of the Tibetan culture.

Becoming a Voice for Tibet allows you to spread your contributions over a year and helps ensure that we are able to respond immediately to urgent developments, such as the recent Nangpa La shootings or an imminent death sentence. It also reduces our administration costs, ensuring that more of your dollar goes directly towards our vital campaigning work.
